Manuals, a Tools page, and Ask Claude as a floating button
A Manuals section filed by manufacturer, category and model; a Tools page for the things that keep being added; Claude’s memory as a readable graph; and Ask Claude floating over every page.
Six requests arrived in under half an hour on the morning of 13 October. This release carries three of them, and most of the rest followed in 1.4.5 and 1.4.6.
Manuals
Equipment manuals now have a section of their own, right after Pages, laid out the way you would look for them on a shelf: manufacturer, then the kind of equipment, then the model, then the manuals themselves. A Schneider variable speed drive manual files under Schneider, then drives, then the model number.
- Claude files them. When a manual lands in the Inbox, housekeeping recognises it, works out the manufacturer, category and model, and builds the folders it needs, all levels at once if necessary. Brand names are tidied to one manufacturer (several brands that belong to the same company file together), and the brand as printed is kept on the page.
- Undo is exact. Undoing a filing moves the manual back, removes the brand it added (unless you changed it), and removes only the folders that filing created, and only if they are empty.
- Search inside Manuals finds model numbers by their first characters and matches text inside the manuals themselves. Breadcrumbs lead back up the shelf.
- Existing manuals were filed, with any unknown details, such as where a copy came from, written down as “not recorded” rather than guessed.
The filing was tested live: a datasheet for a photoelectric sensor was left in the Inbox, and ten minutes later Claude had filed it under its manufacturer, sensors, and its model, with the brand recorded. Undo put it all back.
A Tools page
Features keep being added, and the sidebar should not grow every time. So there is now a Tools entry at the bottom of the sidebar that opens a page of tool tiles. The graph and housekeeping moved there, joined by a new one: Memory.
Claude’s memory, readable
The Memory tool shows the notes Claude keeps between conversations, the same memory this guide describes in its chapter on memory, rendered as readable pages with their links and backlinks, and as a graph you can open from the Graph page’s second tab. It is read only: there is no way to change a memory from Sketchbook, and the server cannot write to it even if asked.
Ask Claude floats
The quick Ask Claude came out of the side panel and became a round button floating over the page, on the web and on Android. It gets out of the way while you are drawing, using the camera, writing mail, typing on the on-screen keyboard or working in a dialog. The command palette gained “Ask Claude a quick question” too, and the home-screen widget stays.
